Although i author my personal sites, there is an element of reportage, voyeurism, and participation of others - a cross section of views and positions. An earlier project 'bimbi' http://www.ozemail.com.au/~bimbi documents cooperative work from Australian artists on an outback sheep station, leaving behind the competitive arena of the city and immersing themselves in the enjoyment of working together on group projects.

Question to Melinda Rackham - Lylie Fisher

Viewing:- line, tunnel and monstersoup in particular it is obvious that your work explores both sexual tensions and online culture. When you work in communities do you seek out work that compliments this or are you multiple in your personalities..

Answer - Melinda Rackham

'tunnel' http://www.artoz.com/exile/tool20b/tunnel my site on cybersex, is written about the mutable nature of gender, sexual preference and personality online.
These signifiers of the self, the way we explain who we are in the 'real world' are not fixed online and are expressed as simultaneous and multiple within the context of the work. It is never exactly clear who the author is, or what the outcome of the online experiences are.

'line' http://www.subtle.net/line is more focused on one relationship, and the shifting boundaries of personal private intimate space into the public arenas of the web - the exhibitionism of placing ones private thoughts and images in a domain that is open for all to see, at once leaving one publicly vulnerable, but also ultimately secure and isolated as it may all be a fiction. virtuality is by definition almost real, but not the real thing..:)

My new project " "carrier" is a sort of personal online community project - the convergence of the personalities if you like - an exploration of the relationship within the personal body, the social body and the net community of a virus. specifically, in the body, it is hepatitis c virus (HCV), but extending to idea viruses (memes), computer viroids, and viral nature of 'fashion' and 'cult'.

Following the structure of my previous sites it will be a mix of digital imaging, personal stories and cybertheory, with some slippery programming thrown in - when i find a new programmer to work with. Also, as I'm committed to including Australian content online to redress the US centric nature of the internet, I'm seeking more personal stories from Australians with HCV to be included in the site anonymously (http://www.subtle.net/carrier/hep.html ).

I visualise the totality of what i do online as a shifting stream (data flow.) the sites are currents and eddies, part of the larger body of water that joins at points and diverges at other points, but somewhere down the line they converge. All are intimately connected perspectives on, and aspects of, the communities that i belong to.. whether it is the physical one outside my front door or the global electronic neighbourhoods that i inhabit.
